Sabbath Closing Ritual for Dreamists
Preparation:
Set up a small table or altar in a quiet space where you can perform the ritual undisturbed.
Place two candles, a lighter or matches, a chime or bell, a small dish of food, a cup of wine or grape juice (with the option to substitute any alcoholic beverage or marijuana), and incense on the table.
Ritual:
Begin by lighting the two candles, representing the divine light within you and the world around you.
Light the incense to create a sacred atmosphere and connect with the spiritual realm.
Take a deep breath, and as you exhale, let go of any stress or worries from the past week. Allow yourself to be fully present in the moment.
Ring the chime or bell to signify the beginning of the ritual.
Hold the cup of wine, grape juice, or your chosen substitute in both hands and recite the following incantation:
“Creator of all, we give thanks for the Sabbath,
For the rest and renewal it has provided,
And for the opportunity to reconnect with our divine purpose.
As we drink this wine (or substitute), may we carry the essence of the Sabbath with us,
Guiding and empowering us in the week ahead.”
Take a sip of the wine or beverage and then set it aside.
Hold the small dish of food and recite the following incantation:
“Creator of all, we give thanks for the sustenance and nourishment you provide.
As we partake in this meal, may we be reminded of the interconnectedness of all life,
And our shared responsibility to heal and protect our world.”
Take a small bite of the food, savoring the flavors and textures, and then set it aside.
Take a moment to reflect on your goals and intentions for tikkun olam in the upcoming week. Visualize yourself making progress and positively impacting the world around you.
Stand up and extend your arms outwards. Recite the following incantation:
“Creator of all, we thank you for the gift of this Sabbath,
For the time to rest, reflect, and reconnect with our divine purpose.
As the sun sets and we prepare to reenter the world,
May we be guided by your wisdom and empowered by your love,
To bring healing, peace, and balance to ourselves and our world.”
Ring the chime or bell once more to signify the end of the ritual.
Extinguish the candles, representing the closing of the Sabbath and the transition back to the work ahead. As you do this, take a deep breath and let the energy of the ritual settle within you.
Close the ritual by saying:
“May the spirit of the Sabbath remain with us,
As we journey forth to create a world of harmony and love.
So be it.”
After completing the ritual, take some time to bask in the peaceful energy it has created. Carry this energy with you as you move into the week ahead, using it as a source of strength and inspiration to guide your actions and choices.
